INVENTIONS MADE BY SIR THOMAS ALVA EDISON

"Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration"

These are the words spoken by one of the legend scientist inventor 'Thomas Alva Edison'.

Thomas Edison was an American inventor cum Buisnessman who was born on february 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio and grew up in Port Huron, Michigan. He was the child (seventh) of Samuel Ogden Edison and Nancy Matthews Elliot.

From the school days itself, Edison  was very different from his fellows. His mother believed that he will surely do something big. Edison suffered from deafness at early age because of untreated middle-ear infection.

He made different life changing inventions which shook the whole world and this made an impression on the royal society too.

His inventions made profound impacts on society. His inventions made him to be known as the greatest inventor of all time.

Some of the inventions made by Thomas Edison are described below:-

LIGHT BULB:

This is the biggest invention of all time which made Thomas Edison famous in whole world. Earlier there was a popular belief around the whole world that Thomas didn't invent the light bulb.

Earlier electric lights were very expensive and had very short lifetime. More than twenty inventors made effort in changing the lighting scenario but non of them was able to make a big change. Then Edison came in the race of invention of light bulb.

Edison did lot of effort to make an inexpensive light bulb with help of some of his friends but all the time he was unsuccessful. But after doing a lot of effort, he was successful in inventing a new light bulb.

He created vacuum inside the bulb and ran the filament at low voltage. This bulb lasted for many hours and this resulted in invention of an economical light bulb.

ELECTROGRAPHIC VOTE RECORDER:

At the age of just 22 years, Edison patented his firs invention that was Electrographic vote recorder. At that time, Edison was working as a telegrapher for a small firm.

This invention was aiming towards helping the legislators in United States congress to record the votes as fast as possible than the voice vote system.

In this system, a voting device was connected to a desk and names of legislators were filled. There was a switch provided to click on yes or no and send electric current to the device. This was tracked and final results were made on basis of this.

PHONOGRAPH:

This was the favorite invention of Thomas Edison and remained his lifelong favorite. This device was used for recording different voices and can be used to play them back.

The first message was recorded by Thomas Edison saying 'Mary had a little lamb'. This message delighted all his staff when the voice was played again and again by them.

Phonograph used the vibrations produced by the voice during speaking. These vibrations were used by a needle to make impressions on a drum which was wrapped by a tin foil. Later it was replaced by discs to permanently record music.
